Tala is on a mission to share sustainable, flattering, competitively priced women’s activewear with the world. We’ve been on a rocket ship since our founding in 2019 by Founder Grace Beverley. Built on organic social, we’ve developed into a DTC eCommerce business with a multi-faceted growth strategy, strong brand, and amazing product and our community remains the heart of who we are. Off the back of our success, we just closed a seed round with world class institutional investors and Angels and are poised for our next stage of growth.


We’re looking for a Head of People to join our growing team in London. This role reports into the Managing Director to start off with, but you’ll be flexible and comfortable working autonomously. We’re at a critical point in our journey, doubling in head count in 6 months, and building our first in-house people function to help shape our culture and look after our incredible team by setting our people up for success, generating an outstanding employee experience, and structuring processes that enable a fast-growing organization to scale high performance. This is an exciting opportunity for a superstar People lead, who is looking for their next challenge in a fast paced and high growth ecommerce start up.


Tasks

  • Coordinat and facilitate talent development: training, performance, opportunities

  • Support management in the design of the organizational structure and career pathways within it including supporting the organisation on effective JDs and hiring tools

  • Design and oversee our company objective setting process and performance management approaches

  • Support and track a culture where we:

  • Hire and develop high calibre talent

  • Have high morale, motivation and moments of joy

  • Make data based decisions

  • Build high performing teams

  • Hear diverse opinions

  • Have a high-autonomy high-alignment leadership culture

  • Communicate effectively including providing feedback constructively (nvc methodology or similar) and conflict resolution

  • Champion a diverse, inclusive, and equitable workplace and design and implement practices to support equal access to achievement

  • Optimize the employee life cycle: from recruitment through alumni status, identify and shore up gaps in our current approach to the various stages

  • Design and deploy recruitment strategies to attract exceptional people

  • Establish policies and procedures (including the Company Handbook) that are aligned with, and enhance, our mission and core values, and see that they are adhered to consistently whilst striking a balance between how much we “policy” and how much we can delegate to trust in our capable team

  • Continuously optimize employee compensation and benefits programs (from salary to wellness benefits) to ensure market competitiveness and reflect our values and the needs of our people

  • Manage our external human resources partners (including payroll, retirement programs etc ) and ensure TALA is compliant with all regulations

  • Lead our “culture club” internally for an ongoing dialogue with our team on all matters relating to company culture, developing the ideas into practicable concepts and championing them within the organisation

  • Lead planning of team socials and extracurriculars

  • Optimise our approach to flexible working

  • Manage diversity, inclusivity, and gender bias training, alongside industry specific training in anti-bribery, anti-corruption, competition and data protection

  • Develop a TALA internship and work-study program to support our community and their start in professional life

Requirements

  • have full-spectrum People experience including several years in a senior People role. Bonus if you have been the first or second people person at a growing, mid-size organization.

  • be energized by people and wake up excited to help people succeed and thrive and be a master of interpersonal relations

  • have successfully implemented HR programs and have a suite of contacts and kit to bring to the organisation.

  • deeply understand the nuts and bolts of designing highly effective recruitment, engagement, performance development and management practices, particularly developing high performing teams and employees and have a track record of implementing them.

  • be thoughtful and analytical, utilizing qualitative and quantitative information, testing assumptions, and balancing business and moral imperatives.

  • communicate proactively and productively in both oral and written exchanges and convince others to pursue actions via clear, informed, and actionable advice.

  • be data driven.
